Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket; you can't get any more into Marine Boot Camp at Parris Island (without signing up) than you do in the first half of Full Metal Jacket. R. Lee Ermey, who plays Senior Drill Instructor Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, was originally the Technical Advisor for the film. Since he had really been a Marine DI, Stanley Kubrick asked him to give an example of how an SDI (Senior Drill Instructor), would talk to a new platoon of recruits. After some minutes of non-stop invectives without repeating himself, Kubrick was so impressed that he hired Ermey on the spot to play the role on screen. And, the sample dialogue was incorporated into the script. The movie takes place in one of my stomping grounds Parris Island South Carolina, Marine Corps Boot camp where I myself spent three years training recruits to become Marines. The first part of the film describes the rigors of boot camp and the true meaning of earning the title Marine. It is a brilliant way to depict the realization of what went into training men to fight in the Vietnam War.

  2. Through business culture we find challenges that with affect how we perform and how others perform as well. A business must establish a code of conduct to enforce rules and regulations governed by organizational hierarchy. In addition employees must understand the consequences for inappropriate behavior towards each other as well as clients or contractors. Having an established business culture ensures a ethical culture that will be a success for the future of the organization.

  4. Olympics / X Games
We know the Olympics as the best of the best. Performing against individuals and teams from across the globe in a wide variety of events to inspire and motivate a country in international competition. The Olympics since eighteen ninety-six have become one of the biggest sporting events in history. Games are held every four years and links sport rivalry with other cultures (The Olympic Museum, 2007). Both summer and winter sports are held with different events ranging from volleyball to downhill skiing. Although winter sports were not introduced until the nineteen twenties, the Olympic Games have been a spectator’s phenomenon. Until the X Games have emerged. To increase the popularity of extreme sports the X Games emerged in nineteen ninety-three and remains the hardcore extreme sporting event in the world. It does not have the venue that our Olympics have but it does provide events that are truly extreme in nature and athletes that represent each event respectfully. From surfing, skating, as well as huge winter events it is truly an event not to pass up.
We are competitive in nature when it comes to competition. With the Olympic Games and now the X Games it provides the viewer with the best of both worlds when it comes to competitive events. So next time you want a different approach to a sporting event remember that extreme sports will give you that extra rush of excitement that you need.

  5. Is this the same Jason Atkins who was a drill instructor for Platoon 3032, from January to April 2004? If so, I was one of your recruits. I went on to join the officer ranks in 2007, did a tour in Afghanistan embedded with the Afghan National Army, and am leaving the service soon. Just wanted to say hello and Semper Fi.
